Lead for a Calm Dog is dedicated to teaching you how to have a satisfying, happy and safe relationship with your dog by eliminating undesirable, and/or dangerous behaviors. We teach you how your dog views the world and how to use his language to successfully communicate with him. The method we use is kind, gentle and subtle. We do not dominate the dog, we do not use fear. We convince the dog that he wants to do what we’re asking by using positive interventions based on his communication style and culture.
This method, called Amichien® Bonding, brings about dramatic results in all areas of dog behavior. It is not “training”. It’s behavior modification, not an instant fix. Like anything worthwhile it requires commitment and dedication.
All dogs can benefit from this method of behavior management, whether you’re getting a new puppy and want to start out right, are rescuing a dog, or have a dog whose been having problems for many years. We can help.
What you can expect:
After a phone conversation about your dog, a consultant will come to your home to assess your dog and show you how to change your dog’s behaviors. It is best if everyone who interacts with the dog on a daily basis attend this consultation, including children.
A consultation may last between 2-5 hours or more depending on your need.
The consultant is not there to “train” your dog. They are there to guide and support you in applying the methods that will change your dog’s behavior. A consultant who does all the interacting with the dog will leave you with a dog that responds to the consultant, not the family.
At the end of the consultation you and the consultant will write an individualized plan for you to follow in order to succeed with your dog. It is based on you and your dog’s needs.

If reading isn’t your thing Jan Fennell also has a video: “The Dog Listener” which is superior and may also be helpful.
Please don’t feel badly if you are not able to change your dog’s behavior after reading the book or watching the video. Not every situation can be covered in those excellent resources. This is a different way of thinking about and approaching your dog. Sometimes a helping hand is needed for success.
